Diocesan Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood

‚ÄčThis year, for the first time, the Diocesan Vocations Commission are inviting all of our parishes to participate in a Diocesan Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood on Friday October 19th.

At the beginning of his recent visit to Ireland for the World Meeting of Families, Pope Francis reminded us that, "The Church is, in a real way, a family among families, and senses the need to support families in their efforts to respond faithfully and joyfully to their God-given vocation in society." Every parish is a family of families and we believe that this initiative is a timely opportunity to support the call to priesthood in our parishes, in our families and in the hearts of those whom God might be calling to this path, especially in these challenging times.

We encourage all parishes to invite their parishioners to gather for one hour on that day to pray for vocations to the priesthood. We are suggesting a time of 7.30 - 8.30pm - however, this can be adapted to whatever time might suit your parish. This is a wonderful opportunity to involve your Parish Pastoral Council, youth groups, local schools, music groups, choir, prayer groups, branches of St. Joseph's Young Priests' Society, etc. in order to make this diocese-wide time a very special one in the life of your parish and the diocese.
